| Hair loss is also known a alopecia or
baldness. Factors involved in hair loss include: hormones, heredity, diet,
nutrition, and the aging process. Some research even indicates that
possibly in some cases the body's immune system thinks hair follicles are
foreign tissue and attacks them. A common form of hair loss is AGA "androgentic alopecia" also known
as male pattern baldness. As its name indicates there is a genetic aspect to this form of hair loss
involving male sex hormones called androgens. People who have AGA could have receptors that slow down or
stop hair production under the influence of androgens. Women can have hair loss however
normally not as much and usually after menopause. In addition to genetic causes to hair loss
are other factors such as: poor circulation, acute illness, surgery, radiation exposure, skin
disease, sudden weight loss, diabetes, thyroid disease,
stress, poor diet, and vitamin deficiencies.
