Edema

Edema is an accumulation of fluid in the body tissues. It used to be called "dropsy". The feet and ankles are the most common place for the accumulation to occur, however any other part of the body can be affected. The swelling and bloating of edema frequently causes pain and muscle aches. Women often get some mild forms of edema during pregnancy. If you are getting edema very often it may indicate a problem with your liver, kidneys, or bladder. Stress and poor nutrition can make you vulnerable to edema.
